The history of the company is closely related to that of Isola del Garda (Garda Island), which used to belong to the family of Count Lecchi, one of Napoleon I’s generals.
Later, at the beginning of the 20th century, the island was purchased by Duke Gaetano de Ferrari, who also bought some land in Valtenesi, in the area surrounded by Portese, Manerba, Moniga and San Felice.
A 320-hectare farm was created, with irregular borders but full of well-placed vineyards, olive groves, woods and meadows.
In 1924, thanks to the entrepreneurial impulse of Count Alessandro Cavazza, husband of Livia Borghese, the duke’s heir, the company underwent agricultural and technological development.
In 1970, on the death of Donna Livia Borghese Cavazza, the estate was inherited by her three children; Novello Cavazza was given the regions of Manerba and Moniga, including the Rocca di Manerba area.
During those years the company was entirely mechanised to comply with EEC directives on organic farming. The olive plantations were increased and from these a fine extra-virgin olive oil is extracted, with DOP (PDO – Protected designation of origin) Garda Bresciano certification.
In the old rural centre of Montinelle, now converted into a holiday farm, the oil is packaged and stored in a dark cellar at a constant temperature.
